English-style hall - how to arrange it?

Add striped wallpaper, plaid or flowers, some solid wood and lots of good taste, and you have an interior that will delight many Englishmen. Start from the beginning, i.e. from the hall.

Przedpokój w stylu angielskim

An English-style hallway - what makes it different?

Entering an English-style hall, family members and guests will feel the unique island atmosphere straight from Great Britain from the very moment they enter. Where modernity seduces tradition, it cannot be boring.

What distinguishes English aesthetics? Probably the most characteristic wallpapers are checkered, striped or floral pattern, especially rose. In its conservative form, the English style is slightly overwhelming. An excess of floral patterns, lots of accessories - not everyone likes it. Especially the small hall can hardly handle overloading with objects.

In a modern version, the English interior design trend is leaning towards minimalism, albeit delicately. Heavy, dark furniture is replaced by lighter and brighter models. Instead of four walls covered with motley wallpaper, only one is decorated with, for example, vertical stripes. The colors are subdued - the pastel base is broken with vivid colors visible in the decorations.

Hallway - English style. How to arrange it?

How would you like to arrange the hall? Traditional or modern? Please read our tips before making your decision.

Style Compatibility

The hall promises the aesthetics of the apartment. Let it harmonize with other rooms in this respect. Do you choose the English style? Make sure the rest of the house fits with him.

Colors and area

A small, narrow hall will look better in a light arrangement, you can smuggle more dark colors into a spacious interior. It is worth knowing that nowadays the hallway to the living room is most often opened, so as not to reduce the space by separating the walls. An interesting alternative will be to put up a glazing or a screen.

Go with the times

Remember that storage spaces and paneling are already passé, but wooden wall cladding in the form of veneered panels gives the room a noble character and is still fashionable. Do you care about paneling? You can compromise in English style by covering the lower part of the wall and the upper part with wallpaper.

We say no to Dirt

Use dirt-resistant materials. Non-woven and vinyl wallpapers are a good idea. When it comes to paint, consider ceramic or latex. Rustic stone slabs will work in refined, exclusive interiors.

The floor must also be easy to clean and resistant to abrasion. When furnishing an entrance hall, consider industrial flooring without grouts, stoneware and stone tiles, preferably in various shades of gray.

What furniture fits the English style?

The furniture in the hall should, above all, be functional. They are designed to make it easier to put on shoes, hide outer clothes and small items such as keys or a wallet. So invest in a wardrobe, a chest of drawers or a dressing table and an armchair or pouffe. Quilted seats are a nice solution, but rather in a larger space, unless you integrate them into the furniture.

The English style appreciates solid, wooden box furniture, comfortable armchairs and antiques. Do you need a large wardrobe? Install it in a recess and make sure that it does not stand out in terms of color from the rest of the room. A small wardrobe will not dominate the interior to such an extent, so it can stand independently.

Extras, i.e. the devil is in the details

Decorative fabrics, floral patterns, retro details - this is how to arrange the corridor in the English fashion. Old-fashioned and rather macabre hunting accents are becoming a thing of the past - paintings depicting hunting and weapons displayed on the wall, not to mention chilling antlers. On the other hand, family heirlooms in the form of photos in frames, porcelain, clocks and lace, passed down from generation to generation, are welcome.

Among the practical accessories, an absolute must-have in the hallway is a mirror, a standing hanger and an umbrella stand. Make the mirror as large as possible so that you can see the entire figure and adjust your clothes and makeup before going out. By the way, it will visually enlarge the room.

Lighting in the hallway - vintage fashion

There are no windows in your vestibule? Think about even lighting from the ceiling. LED strips and fluorescent light bars used for suspended ceilings are also popular. It is definitely worth lighting the dressing table, mirror and the interior of the wardrobe. For an English-style hall, the lighting should be more traditional. The classic multi-arm chandeliers, as if from a bygone era, are perfect.

The English style doesn't have to be stiff and boring!

The English-style hall is cozy, tasteful and classy. Arrange it with fantasy, juggling colors, patterns and forms, or more classic and restrained. This is your space, you can create whatever you want in it. Attaching to the rules governing particular styles in interior design is a relic. Mix styles, play with form, rules are there to be broken. As long as you do it skillfully and with taste.
